Fort Stewart: Top 5 Local Breweries
by PCSgrades Staff - June 16th, 2021
Summer is finally here and it’s the perfect time to get out and try some craft beer! There are lots of options here in the Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield area near Savannah, but these five locations stand out. Grab a date, plus a designated driver, and go try one of the top breweries near Fort Stewart.
The top five breweries near Fort Stewart:
1. Split Fin
Split Fin was recently opened in 2019 by Army Veterans Jeremy and Dr. Kristen Boucher. Their love of scuba diving is reflected in all aspects of the décor–even down to the flight holders. Situated in Midway, GA about 20 minutes from Ft. Stewart, this is the first brewery to come to Liberty County! Split Fin is a very family friendly establishment, hosting family movie nights and trivia. Want to bring your dog? No problem! Pets are allowed on the front or back patio and they will bring out a water bowl for your fur-baby. Ax throwing and private event rentals are another reason this brewery makes our Top 5 List. Stop by and try the Raspberry Gose or the Kolsch today. Follow Split Fin on Facebook for event updates.
2. Debellation Brewing Company
Debellation Brewing Company is located in Richmond Hill, GA in between Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. This Veteran-owned business opened recently and has a variety of beers. Trivia night, live music, ping pong, video games, foosball, corn hole, darts and a good snack menu makes this a great option for families and friends.
What does “debellation” mean and why all the Viking décor? Debellation basically translates to “the wearing down of the enemy in battle to the point in which they cannot fight back any longer.” It’s the utter and complete destruction of an opposing army. Owner Dave Goodell chose this term so there would be a military association. The Viking themed brewery pays homage to his roots. Follow Debellation Brewing Company on Facebook for upcoming events.
3. Two Tides Brewing Company
Two Tides Brewing Company is located in Savannah, GA about 10 minutes from Hunter Army Airfield (HAAF). Home to beer, beer slushies, and games, you’ll want to add this brewery to your list. Though Two Tides “specializes” in sour, haze and funk, there are tons of beers in the taproom. Two Tides is family friendly, allowing children and pets! Stop by to fill your growler, check out the awesome merchandise, or schedule a tour. Check out the beer list and upcoming events here.
4. Service Brewing
What happens when an Army Veteran “taps” into his passion and get his fellow military community to back him financially? Service Brewing Co. is born. Located 15 minutes from HAAF in Savannah, GA, this brewery has amazing beer and décor thanks to owners Kevin Ryan and Meredith Sutton. You’ll find reoccurring weekly events such as trivia, live music, and also a running club. Our favorite part of Service Brewing Co., aside from the fact we can scoop it up on their huge patio wearing our local Class Six, is their commitment to giving back to the local community. The philanthropic measures of Kevin and Meredith have led to over $110,000 given back to organizations such as Toys for Tots, SD Gunner Fund, and Stop Soldier Suicide. Stop by today and make sure to visit the “How Do You Serve?” wall to read or contribute. From good beer to good deeds, you will want to check out Service Brewing Co.
5. Coastal Empire Beer Co.
Kevin Hoback got his first brewing kit in 1995 and never looked back. Kevin first had success with his Savannah Brown Ale but has since expanded to include many more beers. Coastal Empire Beer Co. holds fun events such as Letterkenny Trivia Night, Chili cook-offs, and BOGO pints with game tournaments. Coastal Empire Beer Co. holds the most awards in the Savannah area, bringing home 13 national medals. Stop by today and check out the personal favorite, Coco-Piña Gose. And make sure to practice their motto: Live.Relax.Savor.
Whether you’re stationed in the Savannah area or just visiting, we recommend hitting up these five favorite breweries.
